NOTICE TO USERS

The water energy resource and potential project information provided by the Virtual Hydropower Prospector (VHP) is as accurate as possible within the limitations of the uncertainties of the basic data and methods used. The power potential quantities provided were determined analytically. The method used to determine stream reach (water energy resource site) gross power potential did not include evaluating any aspect of the feasibility of developing a discrete resource or collective group of resources other than location inside or outside a zone in which hydropower development is highly unlikely because of a federal law or policy. Feasible potential projects were identified using a set of feasibility criteria addressing development exclusion, site accessibility, and load proximity. Temporal variation of the resource (availability) was not included in the feasibility criteria. The criteria used may be too restrictive or not restrictive enough depending upon local conditions and restrictions, resource availability, and economics affecting the actual feasibility of development. The "realistic" power potential values provided for the identified feasible potential projects were estimated based on a development model not requiring a stream-obstructing dam or large reservoir and limitations on the working water flow rate and available hydraulic head. These estimates do not include or address equipment efficiencies or resource availability. Actual project power potential may be less than or greater than the estimated value depending on the actual site development scheme and the same factors affecting development feasibility. VHP users need to ensure that the information provided by VHP is adequate for their intended use. Local site evaluation and engineering and economic analyses are essential parts of any project development effort. Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC makes no representation or warranty, expressed or implied, as to the completeness, accuracy, or usability of the data or information provided by VHP.
